The JuliaEdits Process
My editing process is a collaborative partnership. While I keep my eyes peeled for necessary corrections and suggested changes, please know that your authorial intentions are my highest priority. In essence this means that I want to help make your story the best it can be — while staying true to your creative vision and voice.
Projects I'll work on: fiction of any length; romance and romance adjacent preferred, any subgenre; women's fiction; creative nonfiction
Projects I won't work on: anything involving heavy violence, nonconsent, good Nazis, bothsidesing
What kind of editing I offer: the core of my work is a blend of copy and line editing, which means I’m focused on:
Here's how the process works:
Cancellation and rescheduling:
If you cancel, your scheduling fee is nonrefundable.
If you want to reschedule, first please know that because my schedule is generally fully booked many months in advance, it’s unlikely that I will be able to accommodate you within a reasonable time frame. Secondly, your original booking fee will be forfeited, and any new booking will require a new, nonrefundable booking fee.

What kind of editing I offer: the core of my work is a blend of copy and line editing, which means I’m focused on:
- internal consistency, style and voice
- clarity and flow
- spelling, grammar, punctuation and word usage
- basic fact-checking where applicable
- proper manuscript formatting
- light developmental edits – I will comment on plot, character, conflict, etc. but only if it catches my eye; this is not a full developmental edit
Here's how the process works:
- Once you contact JuliaEdits, we chat about the scope of your project, your professional goals, deadlines you're facing, and any particular concerns you have regarding your work. We'll also decide how this fits into my schedule, and you'll receive a price quote after I do a sample edit of a few pages of your manuscript.
- If we book the project, you'll pay a $100 nonrefundable scheduling fee at this point, which will be applied to your final total.
- As our commencement date nears, you'll submit your manuscript as a Word file (.doc or .docx), and pay 50% of the estimated fee, minus your $100 deposit.
- Following our mutually agreed-upon schedule, I will edit your manuscript, make necessary corrections using Word's Track Changes tool, and then return your document to you, along with detailed suggestions for improving your work.
- Again following our pre-established schedule, you'll revise and update your manuscript, then resubmit your draft for my second pass.
- My second edit is as rigorous as the first, covering the entire document, not only the new or revised sections. When it's done, I'll again provide you with a detailed mark-up, and any necessary notes.
- In addition, and at no extra charge, I will provide you with a comprehensive style sheet, which lists basic character and world details, and word usage specific to your tale. If you plan on a sequel or a series, this will come in handy in the future.
- Upon delivery of the second edit and style sheet, final payment is required.
